Field Days: First Loss Is Your Best Loss

courtesy Sterling Small

On this episode of Field Days, Northern Cheyenne rancher Sterling Small pays the price for decisions he made last summer, and learns the truth behind his banker's favorite saying: "Your first loss is your best loss." Sterling finds out the hard way after second-guessing cattle prices and waiting too long to deal with a now-overrun field that needs to get planted.

Field Days is a weekly audio diary following the day-to-day life of a Montana rancher, produced by Yellowstone Public Radio in collaboration with The Prairie Star newspaper. Theme music by John Kosel of the High Country Cowboys.

Ken Siebert began work at YPR in 1992 as a part-time, evening board operator. He was hired full time in 1994.
Sarah Kanter Brown is the producer of YPR’s Field Days. A graduate of the Columbia School of Journalism, Brown has worked at newspapers and magazines nationwide.
