Four finalists were chosen in the search for the next chancellor of Montana State University-Billings.

They are: Carmen Simone, president of Trinidad State Junior College In Trinidad and Alamosa, CO; Dan Edelman, executive vice president of administration and chief financial officer of the University of North Texas at Dallas; Susan Elrod, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at the at University of Wisconsin, Whitewater; and Ron Larsen, the interim chancellor at MSU-Billings.

Search Committee Chair John Cech, a deputy commissioner of higher education, says the finalist pool was narrowed down from 41 applicants from across the country.  He says what made these four stand out was  their focus on student success.

“Each of them spoke to their interest in students and the students of Montana State University-Billings," Cech says. “ And we were excited about that passion, not only for students for how the university can connect with the community, connect with the businesses in the community, and also all of eastern Montana.”

The finalists will visit the campus between February 20 and 23.

  • Simone – Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2018
  • Edelman – Wednesday, Feb. 21
  • Elrod – Thursday Feb 22
  • Larsen – Friday, Feb. 23

Cech urges the community to come to each public forum and meet the applicants. All will begin  at 4:30 P.M. in the MSUB Library, Room 148.
For those unable to attend, the forums will also be streamed live through msubillings.dot.edu/chancellor search.

MSUB hopes to have a new chancellor in place by July 1, 2018.
