General election ballots are in the mail for 297,001 registered Montana voters.
Secretary of State Linda McCulloch says the number of ballots mailed out October 14, 2016 means nearly 43% of registered voters now vote by mail. She says voting absentee has grown in popularity because of its convenience.
“You know, spreading it all out on the kitchen table and being able to look at it and vote is very appealing to voters,” McCulloch says.
2016 General Election Reminders:
- October 12 - Late voter registration opened. To register after this date, voters need to appear at their local election office.
- November 7, noon – Deadline to apply for an absentee ballot
- November 8 – Election Day. Most polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. (or until everyone in line has voted)
- November 8, 8 p.m. – Close of late voter registration
McCulloch and other election officials urge voters to mail back their absentee ballots no later than one week before election day to ensure they arrive at their county election office by November 8, 2016 – General Election Day - so they can be counted.
Voters can also turn in their ballot in person at their county election office.
Once voters return their absentee ballot they can track that ballot on the Secretary of State’s website. The website will also allow Montanans to find out if they are registered to vote, how to get an absentee ballot, or find their polling place.
