The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Montana is giving the public a yearly review of its work tonight at Helena College. A spokesperson for the Montana VA says there is a shift with the department to be more transparent with its day-to-day operations.
Montana VA Health Care System Director Dr. Kathy Berger will deliver the "State of the Montana VA" address beginning at 5:30 p.m., October 20, at the Helena College Lecture Hall.
This will be Berger’s first comprehensive public presentation about the department since since taking the director’s position just under a year ago.
Mike Garica, with the state VA, says the need for this kind of report in Montana became clear after VA Secretary David Shulkin, offered the White House a similar update in May.
Garcia says tonight’s presentation will review a variety of topics affecting the VA in Montana.
"Our access and wait times, the quality care data that we use to not only measure yourself, but also use to compare ourselves to other private sector healthcare organizations. Community Care, which is important in Montana, a rural state like Montana, but also what we’ve invested in our own employees, construction, expansion and leases."
Tonight’s presentation is expected to last about 45 minutes.
