The June Fire 34-miles west of Cody is at 70 percent containment as of today. 203 fire personnel are working on mop-up and patrol efforts today with plans to backhaul equipment and trash.

The Incident Command Post (ICP) is situated along the North Fork Highway, next to the Wapiti Ranger Station and along the North Fork of the Shoshone River. The Wapiti Ranger Station was built in 1903 and is the first Ranger Station built in the United States.

At 6:00 pm on Wed. Jul. 26 there will be a June Fire Community Meeting at the Yellowstone Valley Inn, (3324 Yellowstone Highway, Cody, WY, 82414).

The agenda will include an update to the June Fire, current strategic thinking about suppression activities, and a Q&A session to follow.

“Thanks to the hard work and diligence of the crews, we are nearly complete with the work on the contingency lines along roads,” reported Incident Commander John Markalunas. “It is our goal to be able to open the 500 and 507 roads by this weekend.”

Road 512 is now open to the north of Fox Park, giving access from the south to the Rambler Community and to the Platte River. Fire managers will evaluate further closure order revisions as progress is made on contingency line completion and fire containment.
