Wyoming Writer Who Inspired Popular TV Series Will Visit Bozeman

Chet Johnson

Walt Longmire is the sheriff of a small, fictitious county in northern Wyoming.

His creator, award-winning author Craig Johnson, will be in Bozeman mid-March for an evening of reading, storytelling and autographs.

The first Longmire book, Cold Dish, was a Dilys Award finalist and Death Without Company was the Wyoming State Historical Association’s Book of the Year.

Kit Stephenson with the Bozeman Public Library said the Longmire series is very popular.

“We have multiple copies of each book and I just was looking about a week ago and they are checked out, even with holds,” said Stephenson.

And she said people have also checked out the copies of the Longmire TV series, also based on Johnson’s books.

“We are all just enamored with Longmire and I think that having him here is really exciting for Bozeman,” Stephenson said.

Because of this excitement, Stephenson suggested arriving early.

Johnson’s appearance is Wed. Mar. 15, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. on the second floor of the Bozeman Public Library.

The event is sponsored by the Bozeman Public Library Foundation and The Country Bookshelf will be selling copies of Johnson’s books.
