Bullock, Gianforte Agree on Billings Debate

Montana’s gubernatorial candidates are scheduled to debate in Billings in September. The campaigns are working to confirm other debate offers.

Eric Hyers, campaign manager for incumbent Steve Bullock, says the Democrat looks forward to showing Montanans the contrasting visions each candidate has for Montana.

“Mr. Gianforte fundamentally wants to change all that makes Montana great,” Hyers says. “We think that’s a contrast that’s very apparent to anyone who watches these debates.”

Aaron Flint, spokesman for Republican challenger Greg Gianforte, says the Bozeman businessman is also eager to contrast their different backgrounds.

“Greg Gianforte created hundreds of high paid jobs right here in Montana,” says Flint. “Steve Bullock on the other hand is a career politician who inherited revenues on the rise and now seeing revenues decline and high wage job layoffs all across the state.”

The debate in Billings is scheduled September 19, 2016 at MSU Billings’ Petro Theater at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by YPR, the Billings Gazette, KULR8-TV, and MSU Billings.

Both Hyers and Flint say they’ve agreed to a debate sponsored by the Montana Television Network, but the details are still under negotiation.

Other possible venues are still being discussed.
